World Record Alert: Hugues Zango Re-writes World Indoor Triple Jump

Ladies and gents, we have ourselves the first senior world record of 2021! Who said, this year was going to be a bust? Not this guy.

On Saturday Hugues Zango hop, skipped, and jumped his way into history with an astounding 18.07m (59’-3.5”) triple jump in Aubière, France. The 27-year-old smashed the previous record by 6”, held by Teddy Tamgho in 2011, becoming the first athlete to cross the 18m barrier indoor.

If we did our math right, that puts him at 7th all-time for legal jumps indoor or outdoor. Even better he did it on his sixth and final jump of the competition. He lit a fire under his own ass and pounced in the sands to what is an explicit statement to his competitors this year heading into the Tokyo Olympic Games (if it still happens).
